How to Start Your Own Eyewear Brand: From Concept to First Order
A step-by-step guide to launching your own eyewear brand - niche, collection, compliance, sampling and logistics - and how an OEM/ODM factory supports each stage.

Launching an eyewear brand looks complicated from the outside: designs, certifications, tooling, logistics. In practice, with an experienced OEM/ODM factory beside you, it is a sequence of clear steps. Here is the path we walk through with new brands every year.
Step 1: define your niche and price band
Eyewear is too broad for a first collection. Decide who you are selling to - fashion-conscious city customers, outdoor sports, pharmacy readers, kids - and at what retail price. Your price band decides the frame material and the lens specification, so it is the first conversation to have with your factory.
Step 2: build a tight first collection
Four to six frames are enough to test a market. Starting from a factory's existing designs and modifying colours, lenses and branding (ODM) gets you samples in days instead of months, with no tooling cost. Keep full custom development (OEM) for the pieces you want to own exclusively once you know what sells.
Step 3: get compliance right early
CE marking is the baseline for the European Union, FDA requirements apply in the United States, and retail chains increasingly ask for BSCI or Sedex social-compliance audits. Choosing a factory that already holds these certificates saves months of rework - and lets you print the marks on your first packaging instead of your second.
Step 4: sample, test, approve
Order samples of every frame and test them like a customer: hinge cycles, weight, lens clarity, coating scratch resistance. Approve one physical 'golden sample' per model, signed and dated by both sides. That sample becomes the quality standard your bulk production is judged against.
Step 5: plan quantities, lead time and logistics
First orders should be MOQ-friendly - big enough to look serious, small enough to survive a learning curve. Mix express, air and sea freight to balance speed and cost, and keep a small reorder buffer for the frames that sell faster than expected.
